Lombokvibes.com, Mataram — Tucked away in a quiet corner of Kampung Banjar, Ampenan, in the bustling city of Mataram, stands a humble eatery that has become a culinary sanctuary for those longing for the rich, traditional flavors of South Kalimantan. Warung Banjar, owned and operated by Pak Ihani, is more than just a local food stall—it’s a nostalgic haven for Banjarmasin natives and a hidden gem for Indonesian cuisine enthusiasts.

Located at Jl. Energi No. 1, Kampung Banjar Ampenan, Warung Banjar has been serving its signature dishes since 2004, shortly after Pak Ihani entered retirement.

“It all started with a simple food cart in front of my house,” he recalls. “I was just trying to keep myself busy after retiring.”

Over the years, the modest venture blossomed into a beloved culinary spot. With authentic recipes such as Soto BanjarSate Banjar, and Banjar-style grilled lamb ribs, the eatery quickly gained popularity among locals and visitors alike. The rich, homemade flavors earned the warung a spot at Lombok Epicentrum Mall (LEM) for a time, before Pak Ihani chose to return to his roots—serving loyal customers from his home-based outlet, especially after the 2018 earthquake.

“I feel more connected to my customers here at home,” says Pak Ihani. “It’s a more personal atmosphere, and many of them have been coming since the very beginning.”

Warung Banjar is now one of the few places in Mataram offering authentic Banjar cuisine made from time-honored family recipes. Their warm and flavorful Soto Banjar, uniquely seasoned satay, and tender grilled lamb ribs are perennial favorites.

The warung has become a comforting culinary stop not only for locals but also for those from Kalimantan now living in Lombok.

“Eating here feels like going home to Banjarmasin. The taste brings back childhood memories,” says Ayu, a South Kalimantan native who now resides in Mataram.

Open daily from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM WITA (closed on Sundays), Warung Banjar offers more than just food—it offers a taste of home, a gathering space, and a cultural bridge between islands.

With its affordable prices and authentic taste, Warung Banjar stands as a testament to the power of food in preserving tradition, evoking memories, and uniting communities far from home.
